Q&A: Arturo Ortega, Notitia Data Analytics Consultant

Notitia Analytics Consultant, Arturo Ortega, has extensive experience across data, IT, tech consulting, construction and logistics, alongside a breadth of knowledge and expansive thinking that comes with providing solutions for clients across the world, having worked in Mexico, Canada and Australia.

In addition to his background in data and systems analytics, web and software development, web tools and systems development, Arturo has a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Sciences and advanced diploma in Information Technology, along with certifications as a Qlik Data Architect and Qlik Automation Specialist.

What do you enjoy most about being a data analytics consultant?

I have a very methodical mind, which means that I enjoy to work from a project from the beginning and work through each of the steps -seeing it take shape and form the basis of the next step. Being a data analyst I really enjoy seeing the end project and how well everything works together with a clean and logical final result.

What do you most enjoy about working with our clients?

Having the opportunity to learn about each of our clients, to really understand their challenges, business logic and data - to provide the best possible solutions.

I like working closely within our clients as an extension of their team. This often happens on big projects or when clients use our "analytics managed service" where I get to really build that rapport, over time, and help team members with whatever they need.

Sometimes that is ticking off a whole list of tasks every month as an extra resource, being another expert for a big data analytics project, other times it's providing mentoring or upskilling a team that is learning how to use new technology or tools.

What have been some of your biggest challenges in working with data analytics?

Having to adapt to different tools between clients, and completely changing my mind from one to another to adapt rapidly to their business operation and to their field.

Like any new skill, learning the ability to quickly switch between projects takes time. But once you’ve mastered it -  you have that muscle memory.

What are some of your experiences that have helped you shape your career today?

The support from my Notitia workmates has been critical to enhance my skills and learn new and emerging tools and technology.

One of the best aspects about our culture at Notitia is that we are quick to help each other and provide a different view for a solution.

We each have different backgrounds and experiences which together make us a really strong expert-led team. It means that we really cut straight from the challenge to providing outcomes, which is great for our clients.

Arturo leads projects including Qlik deployments and cloud migrations, dashboard creation, data visualisations, data quality and troubleshooting and developer training sessions. He works alongside the wider Notitia team, in person with our Melbourne office and virtually across our Adelaide & Canberra teams.
